Daniel A. Webster Meader, son of John Meader (1797-1874) [0095] and Maria Washburn (1798-1870), was born on Nantucket in 1831 and buried in Stockton, CA November 18, 1890. He sailed from New Bedford to San Francisco on the Bark Russell April 3, 1849. In 1860 he was an engineer living in Stockton with the R. B. Lane family. He is listed as a cabinet maker in the San Francisco City Directory of 1881/2 and the next year as involved with theatricals. He may have worked for his cousin Charles T. Meader [0194] in San Francisco or Copperopolis, in the Bear Mountains east of Stockton. In 1889 he returned to Nantucket with his cousin Thomas B. Meader [1165] for his first visit home.
